Why haven't school photos gone digital?

Surely with digital cameras, the whole process could be improved. Why not take several shots (like they do at sporting events) and then give parent a log on to buy the shots they like and as many copies as they need (rather than strange packages of fridge magnets and cardboard frames)? Does anyone's school do photographs in a modern way?

Yes our school does this and then as a parent you can do all the ordering and choosing online, so there's no sending money to school for it. They then post to you and give you the option to do everything from buy poster sizes (!) to dinner plates with your kids faces on.
