Oh, what's that? Google Glass? I guess having the internet in a pair of glasses is pretty cool, if you can't afford... the internet in your contact lenses! It sounds far-fetched (and everyone's comparing them to Terminators, which is an unfairly scary association), but a group of scientists are already working on putting tiny little circuits and LEDs into lenses you can wear in your eye.

Offering 'augmented reality in a contact lens', the idea behind the project – currently being worked on by very smart people in Switzerland and the US – will include many of the features of the Glass: taking photos or videos, browsing the internet – along with neat/admittedly Terminator-esque features like being able to zoom in. Like a telescope in your eye! But cooler, and less painful.

Which is really the main thing they've been working on, so far – making it comfortable, and making sure the stuff they put in the lenses is actually okay to then have in your eye, whilst also making sure having all this stuff in your vision isn't totally disorientating. Right now the prototypes include an LED that's wirelessly powered, which 'will eventually include hundreds of LEDs, which will form images in front of the eye, such as words, charts, and photographs'.

That's probably enough to get the kids excited, the technology might also be of use to people with sight and hearing impairments! Everybody wins.
