Is Tiny Plane the future of toy/game combos?

Everyone and their mother is getting in on the motion control racket these days. Well, people whose mothers make videogames, anyway. None are quite so cute as the Tiny Plane, though, a physical toy that guides an on-screen avatar.

The creation of start up ZowPow, Tiny Plane was born out of two things: one, that kids flippin' love playing the sort of casual games you get on smartphones and tablets; and two, kids are spending more time with touch screens in their hands than actually toys. Tiny Plane, and future game/toy combos like it, hope to remedy that.

Even more so than games like Skylanders and Disney Infinity, Tiny Plane lets kids play with toys and have that play translated on-screen. With built-in sensors, moving around the stuffed toy plane (with bear pilot) will dictate how the plane in the accompanying game flies. The best of both worlds!

Tearaway is another great game for little kids that brings the game to real life and vice versa. Kids use their fingers to help their hero navigate, and they collect papercraft plans that they can export and print out. I have to admit, it's one of my favorite games, and I would've adored it as a child.

I hope this is a trend that will continue!
