How do you stop teens and tweens using terms like #rapeface on social media?

I've seen picture messages my son (12) has received from friends, pulling creepy faces with the caption #rapeface. This seems to be a popular r'joke' among this age group. My older daughter tells me she's seen the same, among her social group and beyond. Obviously they find it funny because it is offensive. How do we make them realise the depths of words like this?
