How do fuel bands encourage teens to stay active?
A friend of mine bought the Nike Fuel+ Band. He's on a weight losing binge and he started wearing this device and I was really impressed both with his results and with the concept of the product. Would it be a good choice for teen girls too?

I'm not sure how effective such things would be, unless your child has an interest to start with, but one brilliant app I discovered recently is a no-cost way to find out, as most teenage children have a smartphone these days.
http://www.moves-app.com/ does much the same job as a fitness band and is compatible with iPhone and most android devices.
You simply install it and, for the most part, forget it.
It acts as a pedometer and distance calculator, automatically identifies walking, running and cycling and logs other transport use, and gives you a daily summary and timeline of your activities and locations on a daily basis.
It runs in the background and seems to consume very little battery power. I love it and am trying daily to get to my 10,000 step goal, which is quite a challenge, but it is surprising what can be achieved by popping out for a walk lunchtime or of an evening!
