There are so many apps around to help children learn to write, and one of the best sites reviewing these can be found at They look at the range of apps to help kids write and review them covering criteria such as Quality, Education, Entertainment, Value, and Child Friendliness.

Personally though I have to say you can't be good old fashioned paper and a mixed bunch of crayons, pens, and pencils and let them get creative with a blank piece of paper - developing their fine motor skills is really important and there are lots of fun ways to do this without needing to 'tap' and 'swipe'.
