Check out Perch app on the iPad. If you have an unused iPad laying around the house (the way we want to lay our hands on every latest Apple product, this shouldn't be a problem) you can mount it on any wall in your home. When you walk up to the mounted Perch device it’ll switch on - the facial recognition technology automatically knows when you have something to say and records it. Family members who are not at home receive those messages as video alerts, and can reply from wherever they are. It’s like pinning a note on the fridge door, only way cooler (pun intended) than that.

I really hope that our site can help. Me and my co-founder are both moms. We developed a social network around organizing tools (calendars, to do lists) and when you sign up - you can add your child to your account. People added as "children" can not connect with anyone outside of your account and are not "searchable" on the site. If you have an older kid - you can designate them an adult, and they can connect with friends/family but you maintain control over the account. Its a fun way to share goofy pictures with grandparents/aunts/uncles/friends, and to plan events within a family. AND we're FREE! AND we have free android and iphone/ipad apps - sized for phones and tablets. We'd love to know what you think.
