What about magazine subscription or Itunnes voucher, You could even choose a photo with the kids and get a frame for it.

I used to get my Dad golf stuff for years for Father's Day. When I went back to visit last year, I saw all of it in a closet, neatly tucked away.
I think experiences and memories would have been way better.
..not that I have any idea what good experiences and memories for Dad would be. :P
On the other hand, I do have a good idea what a good Father's Day gift for Grandpa would be, but that's only because I started a company to build it:
So I'm a little biased, but I think Grandpa would love postcards of his grandkids year-round ;)
